Uma Thurman joins cast of 'Stargirl' sequel
Hollywood superstar Uma Thurman has joined the star cast of the sequel to Disney+'s young adult romantic drama Stargirl. The original Stargirl, directed by Julia Hart, was released on Disney+ in March, last year. The movie became an instant hit. Hart will be returning to the director's seat with Grace VanderWaal reprising her role as the protagonist Stargirl Caraway. Here's more.

Stargirl is an adaptation of author Jerry Spinelli's best-selling novel by the same name. The film is a teenage drama exploring the topics of self-expression and non-conformity in a high school setting. Leo, played by actor Graham Verchere, wishes for an anonymous and relaxed existence but he falls for a vibrant girl named Stargirl, played by VanderWaal, and his life is turned upside down.

Fans and critics had appreciated the coming-of-age story of Stargirl. They also admired the self-assured performances from the film's young cast, many of whom were new to the industry. Currently, Stargirl has an impressive 70% critic and audience rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes. A review in The New York Times said, "This kindhearted novel adaptation offers a welcome message of embracing one's true self."
Thurman will be playing a musician in the upcoming film
The sequel, titled Hollywood Stargirl, will be loosely based on another Spinelli's novel — Love, Stargirl. The film will see the character of Stargirl step out of her comfort zone into the world of music. This is where Thurman's character, musician Roxanne Martel, comes in. The film will show Stargirl admiring Martel as an artist. Musician Michael Penn will compose the music.
Thurman became an international star after 'Pulp Fiction'
Thurman started out as a model and later transitioned into the world of acting. She gained international prominence in 1994 with her role in Quentin Tarantino's neo-noir classic Pulp Fiction. Thurman was nominated for the BAFTA Award, Golden Globe, and Academy Award for the role. The actress was most recently seen in The War with Grandpa and the Netflix series Chambers.
