Box office: Janhvi Kapoor's 'Ulajh' starts slow, makes ₹1.10cr debut
The Hindi film Ulajh, featuring Janhvi Kapoor, Gulshan Devaiah, and Roshan Mathew, premiered in theaters on Friday. Directed by Sudhanshu Saria, the movie had an expectedly slow start at the box office with earnings of ₹1.10cr on its opening day, as per early estimates by Sacnilk. The film's plot revolves around Suhana Bhatia (Kapoor), a young Indian Foreign Service officer entangled in a dangerous personal conspiracy while stationed abroad.
'Ulajh' occupancy rates and screen distribution
The overall occupancy of Ulajh on its opening day was reported to be 13.02%, with morning shows at 7.38%, afternoon shows at 10.85%, evening shows at 13.06%, and a significant jump to 20.78% for night shows. The film was produced on a budget of ₹50 crore and was screened across approximately 2,500 theaters in India. The film was written by Saria and Parveez Shaikh, with dialogues penned by Atika Chauhan. It was presented by Junglee Pictures.
'Ulajh'-'Auron...' clash and Kapoor's upcoming projects
Ulajh clashed with Ajay Devgn-Tabu's Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, which also had a poor start and minted about ₹2.1cr. The latter is directed by Neeraj Pandey and is the story of two star-crossed lovers whose lives are torn apart after a tragic turn of fate. Coming back to Kapoor, she will next be seen in Devara opposite Jr NTR and in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari opposite Varun Dhawan.
