Udit Narayan reveals Shravan Rathod attended Kumbh Mela
Veteran singer Udit Narayan is in severe grief after losing close friend music composer Shravan Rathod to COVID-19 a few days back. He recently revealed an explosive detail about Rathod to a portal. Narayan said Rathod and his wife had attended the Kumbh Mela and tested positive after coming back. Rathod's other family members also contracted the virus and are currently undergoing treatment.
Narayan found out Rathod was at the fair by chance
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Narayan lamented that Rathod's death could have been easily avoided. He said, "Ignoring all attempts to dissuade him Shravan Bhai went to the Kumbh Mela. He also dragged his wife along. I found this out by chance when I called him two weeks ago." The Pehla Nasha singer said he was "shocked" because Rathod "had a history of chronic illnesses."
'Kumbh Mela should not have been allowed at this time'
Narrating how he could not sleep the entire night as Rathod was like his own brother, Narayan said he wished the veteran composer had not taken such a "huge risk." "Shravan came back and contracted COVID-19. His wife also has COVID-19. And his son Sanjeev also has it. (sic)" He also opined that the "Kumbh Mela should not [have been] allowed at this time."
Son Sanjeev confirmed Rathod's Kumbh Mela attendance
The news of Rathod and his wife going to Kumbh Mela has been confirmed by their son, Sanjeev, as well. He told a portal that a few days after the couple returned, Rathod had complained of breathlessness and thus got tested for COVID-19. Sanjeev, one-half of composer brothers Sanjeev-Darshan, said, "We had never thought our family would have to go through such tough times."
BMC is helping son Darshan with funeral arrangements
He said he is admitted to a Mumbai hospital along with his mother, who has been understandably "inconsolable". "My brother [Darshan] is also positive and is in home isolation, but since our father has died, he is being allowed to do the final procedures to do last rites for our father," he informed. With the help of BMC, special funeral arrangements are being made.
