Emmy winners Ty Burrell-Bryan Cranston team up for Roku's 'Tightrope!'
Emmy award winners Ty Burrell and Bryan Cranston are joining forces to bring a comedic spin to the late 1950s detective drama, Tightrope!, on the Roku Channel. Burrell will star in the series and also serve as an executive producer, while Cranston will hold an executive producer role. The show will consist of six episodes. The announcement was made during Roku's newfronts presentation to advertisers on Tuesday (local time), where other upcoming programs were also showcased.
'Tightrope!' will be reimagined as a slapstick comedy
Tightrope!, originally aired on CBS from 1959-60, featured Mike Connors as an undercover cop infiltrating criminal organizations. The Roku adaptation will transform this vintage drama into a slapstick comedy. Burrell will portray a solitary detective traversing different cities in search of his long-lost love. Cranston stated, "I was inspired by the on-the-nose old drama series of the '50s to mess with the whole thing and create a new version of a lunatic comedy, never seen before in a TV series."
Production details and excitement surrounding 'Tightrope!'
The series is being produced by Village Roadshow Television, Cranston's Moonshot Entertainment, and Burrell's Blue Whale Productions. Roku Media president Charlie Collier expressed his excitement about the project, stating, "We're thrilled to have Ty Burrell and Bryan Cranston join us at Roku for this imaginative, funny series." He warmly welcomed them along with their production teams to the Roku Originals lineup. Burrell also expressed his joy about collaborating with Bryan and Roku Originals on this unique show.
