2 arrested for threatening Salim; say, 'it was for fun'
Two individuals, a man and a burqa-clad woman, were arrested on Thursday (September 19) for allegedly threatening Bollywood screenwriter Salim Khan, father of actor Salman Khan, in Mumbai's Bandra area. The incident occurred at the Bandra Bandstand promenade where the 88-year-old veteran screenwriter was resting after his morning walk. The duo claimed they committed the act "for fun," according to police. Here are more details.
Duo approached Salim, mentioned gangster Lawrence Bishnoi
According to the police, the man and woman rode up to Salim on a two-wheeler after taking a U-turn near the promenade. They allegedly asked him, "Lawrence Bishnoi ko bheju kya? (Should we send Lawrence Bishnoi to you?)," before speeding away from the scene. They also warned him to "behave properly." The duo was later detained and during questioning, they reportedly confessed that they were merely causing "mischief."
Salim's bodyguard lodged complaint; police investigation underway
Following the incident, Salim's bodyguard filed a complaint at the Bandra Police Station. A case was registered and an investigation was launched. The police are continuing their probe into the matter. The threat is being taken seriously due to gangster Bishnoi's criminal history and his previous death threats against Khan. The authorities are also probing if there were any other motives or individuals involved.
Duo booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code
The Bandra Police have booked the man and woman under Sections 353(2) (inciting enmity between different groups), 292 (public nuisance), and 3(5) (common intention) of the IPC. "We are tracing the couple through CCTV recordings, although we presume it was mischief," said a senior police inspector earlier.
Recent security concerns for Khan family
This incident follows a series of security concerns for the Khan family. Recently, police arrested a motorcyclist for reckless driving after attempting to infiltrate Khan's convoy. Additionally, the actor's father had previously received a threatening note at Bandstand. These events unfold against a backdrop of heightened security measures for the actor and his family, following a shooting incident outside their residence in April. Bishnoi's brother, Anmol—believed to be in Canada—claimed responsibility for the attack via a Facebook post.
Khan family was present inside house during April shooting incident
To recall, in the early hours of April 14, two assailants on a motorcycle fired five or six rounds at the actor's house before fleeing the city. The Khan family was present at their Galaxy Apartment residence in Bandra West during the attack. In a 1,735-page charge sheet filed before the special MCOCA court, police have named nine individuals, including Anmol. The charge sheet alleges that he instructed shooters to fire shots outside the actor's residence to intimidate Khan.
