'Tumbbad' advance booking: 13,000 tickets sold on Day 1
Sohum Shah's Tumbbad is making a comeback to theaters, six years after its initial release in 2018. The film, despite earning critical acclaim, had underperformed at the box office during its original run. However, it seems to be rewriting its own history with the re-release. Trade analyst Komal Nahta revealed that Tumbbad has already sold around 13,000 tickets for the first day through advance booking.
'Tumbbad' makes a thunderous comeback
According to Nahta, Tumbbad has sold over 13,000 advance tickets across national chains for its re-release. He shared this information on his X account (formerly Twitter), stating, "A thunderous comeback for Tumbbad! 'Tumbbad' was more than just a film: Aanand L. Rai
Aanand L. Rai of Colour Yellow Productions, in a statement about Tumbbad's re-release, said, "Tumbbad was more than just a film for us—it was a journey into uncharted territory. The curiosity and the questions about a possible Tumbbad 2 even today, speaks volumes about its impact." Shah hopes for 'Tumbbad's long-overdue recognition
In an interview, Shah expressed his hopes for the re-release of Tumbbad. He said, "At the time of its original release, Tumbbad was up against certain commercial expectations that didn't align with its unconventional narrative. Maybe it was ahead of its time or simply misunderstood by the masses." He further added that he believes Tumbbad will get its long-overdue recognition this time.
