'Tumbbad' re-release makes over ₹19 crore in 9 days
Sohum Shah's critically acclaimed horror fantasy drama, Tumbbad, has been enjoying a successful run at the box office since its re-release on September 13. The film, which originally released on October 12, 2018, had failed to make a significant impact at the box office with a lifetime collection of just ₹13.57 crore. However, this time around, Tumbbad has already amassed ₹19.45 crore in nine days, outperforming several new releases.
'Tumbbad' earned ₹2.75 crore on 2nd Saturday
Tumbbad reportedly raked in ₹2.75 crore on its second Saturday, bringing the total net collection to ₹19.45 crore. This impressive performance is noteworthy considering the film was made on a budget of ₹15 crore. The re-release has clearly struck a chord with audiences, proving that content-driven cinema can hold its own against big-budget commercial films at the box office.

Tumbbad tells the story of a man living in Maharashtra who puts his life on the line to trick Hastar, a demon who regularly gives him wealth. However, things turn awry when Hastar attacks him, leading to his eternal damnation. The film, directed by Rahi Anil Barve, features Shah, Jyoti Malshe, Dhundiraj Prabhakar, Ronjini Chakraborty, Mohammad Samad, Harish Khanna, and Piyush Kaushik in pivotal roles.
Shah shared his emotional journey during 'Tumbbad' production
In a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia, Shah opened up about the emotional toll the film's production took on him. He said, "During this film, I was so tired. Ajay-Atul composed a song for the movie. I was sitting near him, they were making the song, there was some discussion and I started crying. I said, 'I swear to never produce a film again.'"
