Trevor Noah mocks Joe Biden over 'failed' Saudi, UAE talks
The Wall Street Journal recently reported US President Joe Biden failed to hold talks with leaders of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to seek support for Ukraine and help contain surging oil prices. The leaders apparently declined to speak with Biden—a claim denied by the White House officials. But that didn't stop The Daily Show host Trevor Noah from mocking the president.
Why does this story matter?
The US imposed a ban on imports of oil from Russia in a bid to paralyze Russia's economy over the attack on Ukraine this month. While Biden's move did affect Russia, it also led to a massive surge in oil prices across the world. Now, the American administration was apparently arranging dialog with other oil exporters—like Saudi and the UAE—to control this sky-rocketing surge.
'That must have been really embarrassing for Biden'
"Apparently, Saudi Arabia won't even pick up the phone for the president of the United States," Noah said in a monolog on The Daily Show Wednesday night. "That must have been really embarrassing for Biden," he commented, adding, "Can you imagine? He phones them, and they don't pick up." The talk show host didn't stop there though, as he also brought in Biden's predecessor.
'This would have never happened to Donald Trump'
The comedian opined the behavior of the Western Asian countries' leaders would have been different if it was former US President Donald Trump making the call. "You can say what you want, but this would have never happened to Donald Trump. Never." Noah added, "No one was ever ignoring [Trump's] calls... [Because] if you ignored [his] calls, you didn't know how he would respond."
Can you imagine Trump stepping in as 'President Wild Card'?
Guessing how Trump would have reacted in this situation, Noah said: "Maybe he'd send an angry tweet, or maybe he'd just, like, ban your country from everything. You don't know." Going further, the "woke" commentator who was an open critique of Trump's policies, noted, "I bet, in these situations, Biden actually wishes that he could hire Trump to step in as 'President Wild Card.'"
