'Beast' trailer: Vijay runs one-man show in hostage thriller
The much-anticipated trailer for Thalapathy Vijay's Beast is finally out! The Kollywood superstar will be seen playing a soldier who gets involved in a hostage situation in this film. And, the trailer promises some breathtaking action sequences and a lot of Vijay's charisma. Written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Beast is set to release on April 13. Before that, let's break down the trailer.
A shopping mall in Chennai gets hijacked creating crisis situation
The nearly three-minute clip begins with a shopping mall in Chennai getting hijacked by armed men. Understandably, the mall is filled with hundreds of people and the hijacking-cum-hostage incident has created a crisis situation. While the government devises plans, Selvaraghavan, playing a law enforcement officer, tells the authorities they have a piece of good news even during this bad time. But how exactly?
We're then introduced to Veeraraghavan, 'best and most notorious' spy
Well, a soldier/spy Veeraraghavan (Vijay) accidentally gets stuck inside the mall during the hijack. He isn't some regular soldier but "one of the best and most notorious spies we've ever had." We then see Vijay in a cool slow-motion entry as "Meaner...Leaner...Stronger" plays in the background. It's implied that not the hostages, but it's the terrorists who should be afraid for their lives now.

Pooja Hegde and Yogi Babu get blink-and-miss appearances
While Vijay becomes a one-man army inside the mall, the main antagonist, i.e., the leader of the terrorists stays hidden behind a mask. Other actors who get brief glimpses include Pooja Hegde and Yogi Babu, both of whom seem to be fellow hostages. But Babu's presence assures us that we will not face any dearth of light moments in this high-octane action flick.
Anirudh Ravichander is the music composer of 'Beast'
To recall, we saw a similar premise of a super-soldier being stuck in a hostage situation in Vidyut Jammwal's Sanak last year. Hopefully, Beast will get a solid story to back up this premise. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music for the film bankrolled by Sun Pictures. While Manoj Paramahamsa has been roped in as its cinematographer, R Nirmal is the editor for Beast.
