'Hey Sinamika' trailer: Dulquer Salmaan's film looks like fun-filled romcom
The trailer of the upcoming Tamil film Hey Sinamika, starring Dulquer Salmaan, Kajal Aggarwal, and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead, was unveiled on Wednesday. Actors Mammootty, R Madhavan, Karthi, and Mahesh Babu shared the trailer on their respective social media pages. Touted to be a romcom, Hey Sinamika marks the directorial debut of ace choreographer Brindha and has been produced by Jio Studios.
Why does this story matter?
Salmaan's last Tamil film was Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal, a 2020 release. It had received positive reviews from critics and also had a good run at the box office. But it was a multi-starrer. As a solo lead, his last Tamil release was Solo (2017), an experimental anthology. So, in that sense, Hey Sinamika marks his return (as a lead character) to Tamil cinema.
What does the trailer show?
The 2:37-minute-long trailer shows Mouna (Hydari) and Yaazhan (Salmaan) as a couple in a perfect relationship. However, as time passes by, they face roadblocks in their marriage and that's when Malarvizhi (Aggarwal) enters their life. Naturally, a jealous Mouna tries to win Yaazhan back but fails. Hey Sinamika is pitched as a "celebration of love and friendship," and the trailer indeed indicates the same.
Film is director's 'tribute to Mani Ratnam'
In a previous interview, Brindha had stated that the film is her tribute to Mani Ratnam. "I choreographed one of Mani sir's songs Aye Sinamika (Ok Kanmani) that featured Dulquer. You could say it's (the film) my tribute to him," she had said. Govind Vasantha (96 fame) has composed the film's music. Makers had already dropped three singles prior to the trailer release.
What else do we know of 'Hey Sinamika'?
Hey Sinamika is slated to hit cinema halls on March 3. It will get released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, too. The digital rights of the film have been bagged by Netflix and its satellite rights have gone to Colors Tamil. Separately, Salmaan has many interesting films in the pipeline, including Salute, Othiram Kadakam, and Chup: Revenge Of The Artist, among others.
