Director Girish Malik's 17-year-old son dies after falling from building
The film fraternity was left shocked on Friday after Torbaaz helmer Girish Malik's son passed away after falling off from the fifth floor of their building in Mumbai on Holi. Reportedly, the 17-year-old returned home after playing Holi just before his death. It's not yet known how he fell down to his death. The news has left Sanjay Dutt—who led Malik's Torbaaz (2020)—"deeply saddened."
The incident happened at around 5:00pm
According to ETimes, Malik's son, Mannan, had returned from playing Holi to their residence at Oberoi Springs in Mumbai's Andheri locality after which he fell from the building. He was reportedly rushed to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital but doctors couldn't save him. It is yet to be determined if he fell by mistake or it is a suicide. The incident reportedly happened at around 5:00pm.
News was confirmed by Malik's 'Torbaaz' partner Puneet Singh
The news was confirmed by Puneet Singh, Malik's collaborator in Torbaaz. "Mr. Malik's son has passed away but I cannot say anything at the moment about what exactly happened. We are not in a state to speak," Singh told ETimes. As soon as the tragic news broke out, many colleagues of the director have expressed their condolences and prayers.
Dutt is 'deeply saddened' by the sudden passing of Mannan
Torbaaz producer Rahul Mittra told a publication he was "non-plussed to learn about the unfortunate incident." Mittra revealed he informed Dutt about the matter and he was "deeply saddened" as well. "We are shocked beyond words. I had met Mannan a couple of times along with [Malik] during the making of Torbaaz and found him to be very talented...a boy of promise," he said.
Malik made directorial debut with 'Jal' in 2013
"May God give [Malik] and the entire family strength to cope up with this irreversible loss. My heartfelt condolences," Mittra said To recall, Torbaaz also starred Nargis Fakhri and Rahul Dev and was set around a man encouraging children in a refugee camp to play cricket. Malik made his directorial debut with Jal (2013) and is currently producing a Punjabi project, Mann Vs Khan.
