5 movies Indians streamed the most this past week
The OTT space has seen tremendous growth in the past one year, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Though nowadays theaters are operating in full capacity, makers still opt to take their films on the digital platforms after their theatrical run or release there directly. Want to know what are people streaming right now? We have listed the top five movies Indians watched last week.
'The Adam Project'
As per data compiled by streaming service guide app JustWatch in between the period of March 7-13, Netflix's The Adam Project was streamed the most. The science-fiction comedy hit the OTT platform on March 11, so coming to the top in just two days is incredible. Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, and Jennifer Garner form the principal cast. It has been directed by Shawn Levy.
'Badhaai Do'
On the second spot, we have Badhaai Do. Like The Adam Project, Badhaai Do also released on Netflix on March 11, but unlike the former, it wasn't a direct-to-OTT release. It first hit theaters on February 11. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, Badhaai Do dealt with lavender marriage. In it, Rao played a gay cop, while Pednekar was a lesbian PT instructor.
'Khiladi'
Up next is Telugu film Khiladi, starring Ravi Teja. The action comedy hit Disney+ Hotstar on March 11, and quickly grabbed a position in the top five. This is not similar to the reception it faced from critics and theater audience. Anyway, so the Ramesh Varma-directorial also stars Dimple Hayathi, Arjun Sarja, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Nikitin Dheer, Sachin Khedekar, Mukesh Rishi, and Murali Sharma.
'Turning Red'
In the fourth place, we have Pixar-Walt Disney's latest outing Turning Red that hit Disney+ Hotstar on March 11. The animated coming-of-age fantasy revolves around a teen, Meilin Lee, who turns into a giant red panda whenever she gets excited. If you haven't watched the film yet, read our take on Turning Red, where we say the lessons teens can learn from this film.
'Dune'
Dune rounds up the top five. Now, interestingly, the Denis Villeneuve-directorial has not yet hit the streaming space of India officially, but it seems downloading VPN has come handy to those stationed here. To note, the streaming date of Dune is March 25 and Amazon Prime Video will be its host. The film stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, and Josh Brolin, among others.
