Emmy Awards 2018: 5 most memorable moments
The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards have just ended. They were jointly hosted by Colin Jost and Michael Che. The expected shows took home the prizes. Most notably, 'Game of Thrones' won Outstanding Drama Series and 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' won Outstanding Comedy Series. However, the award ceremony had several other memorable moments, making it a night to remember. Here's all about it.
The Lannister siblings and the greatest show on earth
'Game of Thrones' winning the outstanding drama series was not surprising, considering they had 22 nominations in this year's Emmy. The show will be eyeing for more awards with the explosive final season that is in the making. Notably, show-makers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff acknowledged George R.R. Martin's genius. Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj-Coster Waldau were nominated for Best Supporting Actor, but Dinklage won.
The perfect ending to an acceptance speech
Glenn Weiss, a director who won for a variety special, in this year's Emmy Awards, turned his acceptance speech into a sweet personal moment. Getting up on stage, he turned to his girlfriend and proclaimed his love for her. And, she accepted his ring. The celebration of love and happiness makes this one of the most memorable Emmy moments over the years.
The coolest presenter we did not expect
Hannah Gadsby, known for her outstanding Netflix comedy 'Nanette' was invited to present the award for best direction in a drama series. The comedian quickly quipped that it was overwhelming to be presenting an award just because she got famous for not liking men. However, Hannah still managed to wow the audiences yet again.
The personal should always be the political
Award shows should take the opportunity to put across political messages, though mostly they end up being liberal-centrist. This time, hosts Che and Jost addressed some relevant issues of the day like white nationalism. Notably, one of the most important points they raised was regarding diversity in shows and representation of people of color.
Amazon show amazes the award ceremony
The 'Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' started off strong with already four awards. The show, despite its comic overtones, addresses the pertinent issue of a woman finding her voice in the 1950s. The story of a housewife trying to make it in comedy grabbed our attention and luckily, the show is being renewed for another season. Here's hoping more politically relevant shows gain recognition!
