Will Tom Hiddleston continue as Marvel's 'Loki'? He reveals
Tom Hiddleston, renowned for his portrayal of Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has expressed uncertainty about continuing the role. During a recent promotional appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for his series The Night Manager, Hiddleston reflected on his long-standing journey as Loki. He shared that he was surprised by the realization that he has been playing this character for a significant part of his adult life.
Hiddleston reflected on his 14-year journey as Loki
Hiddleston, who was cast as Loki in 2009 at 28, expressed astonishment at the realization that he has been playing this character for 14 years. "I had no idea, and every time someone says that [it's been 14 years], it kind of blows my mind," he said. "I'm 43 now, and that's a big chunk of my adult life, I've been playing this amazing character...it's changed the course of my life completely."
Hiddleston's future as Loki remains uncertain
When asked by Jimmy Kimmel if he was ready to retire his Loki character after the second season finale of Loki—which neatly concluded Asgardian God of Mischief's storyline—Hiddleston responded with an honest expression of uncertainty, saying, "I don't know." However, the host didn't completely believe him, noting that Marvel stars often choose to "outright lie" about their characters' futures. To this, Hiddleston added, "I know we've reached a narrative conclusion with S02, which feels very satisfying to me."
Hiddleston's unique perspective on Loki's character
Despite the ambiguity, Hiddleston doesn't perceive his character as a villain. "I'm aware that he's made some interesting choices...which could be accumulated into a picture that looks like he's a villain...and once upon a time, he was making some misguided choices." "Trying to take over New York and the Avengers having to assemble to stop him, that was a bad day in the office...I'd like to think that you know, 14 years later, he's making some slightly more generous...heroic choices."
Hiddleston's amusing revelation about Loki's iconic horns
Hiddleston further confessed that unlike many of his Marvel co-stars, he hasn't kept any souvenirs—not even Loki's iconic horns. The late-night host quipped that if he were the God of Mischief, he would have a "horn-y room" where he would mount them all on a wall. "I don't know what message that sends to guests who come over for dinner," Hiddleston joked, with Kimmel adding, "I think the message is, "I'm Loki, damn it."'"
