Akshay Kumar finds action inspiration in 'violent' 'Tom and Jerry'
Bollywood star Akshay Kumar recently revealed that he draws inspiration for his action sequences from the popular cartoon show of the 90s, Tom and Jerry. The actor made this surprising revelation during an interview with Pinkvilla while discussing his upcoming film Khel Khel Mein, set to hit theaters on Thursday (August 15). Contrary to the common perception of Tom and Jerry as a comedy, Kumar described it as "action" and "violence."
Kumar's unique perspective on 'Tom and Jerry'
When Kumar's co-star in KKM, Fardeen Khan, described Tom and Jerry as a comedy, Kumar disagreed and stated, "No, no. Tom and Jerry is not comedy; Tom and Jerry is action; it's violence." He went on to explain: "I'll tell you one secret. So many actions (scenes) I have done a lot of times I have taken it from Tom and Jerry." "That whole helicopter scene, I have taken it from Tom and Jerry."
'National Geographic also inspired my action scenes...'
In addition to Tom and Jerry, Kumar also mentioned that he has taken inspiration from National Geographic for his action scenes. He said, "And another one from which I had taken is National Geographic, where you get to see great action. Tom and Jerry is unbelievable, the kind of action they have." Meanwhile, when asked about his go-to stress relievers, Kumar shared that he turns to Charlie Chaplin or the sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
Kumar remains hopeful despite recent box office failures
Despite recent box office disappointments with films like Mission Raniganj, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and Sarfira, Kumar remains optimistic about his future projects. His upcoming film features a star-studded cast including Vaani Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, Ammy Virk, Pragya Jaiswal, Aditya Seal along with Kumar and Khan. It is helmed by Mudassar Aziz. Kumar also expressed hope for potential sequels to his iconic comedies Hera Pheri and Garam Masala.
