Bengali actress Kanchana Moitra molested, bullied on road
Bengali actress Kanchana Moitra has alleged she was molested and bullied by a group of men when she was returning home from a shoot yesterday night in Kolkata. A man was arrested immediately after the incident when she stopped a patrol van. Another was arrested this morning. Police are on the lookout for another. The crime took place close to Tollygunge.
What happened?
Moitra was heading to her home in Behala when three men stopped the car near Siriti More saying it could have grazed them. They then allegedly snatched the car keys, assaulted her driver, pulled her out and molested her. "They told me to slap my driver 10 times and he had to slap me 10 times. Then I was asked to do 40 squats."
What are the police doing?
Moitra says during the ordeal, many people passed but no one stopped to help. She kept begging her bullies for forgiveness but they didn't listen. When the patrol van finally appeared, they even defended their actions. The trio, who were drunk at the time of the incident, has been charged with wrongful restraint, intent to outrage the modesty of a woman, and criminal intimidation.
