After Hardik Pandya row, Ranveer's 'sexist' video on 'KWK' emerges
Karan Johar's Koffee With Karan 6 recently grabbed headlines after Hardik Pandya made sexist comments on the show. The cricketer has, subsequently, been suspended by BCCI. But, as is always the case, internet never forgets. Now, an old video from KWK featuring Ranveer Singh has been pulled out where he passed crass, sexist remarks on Kareena Kapoor. Why was he forgiven, we ask?
Backstory: Ranveer was floored by Kareena's beauty. Really?
During his debut appearance on KWK in 2010, Ranveer was uncouth, to say the least. The actor, who shared the couch with Band Baaja Baraat co-star Anushka Sharma, made quite a few distasteful statements. He mentioned he was fascinated to see Kareena swimming at a club. "I went from child to boy," he said. Puke level: 100.
Naturally, Ranveer was slammed by netizens
As this old video went viral, netizens lashed out at Ranveer for his inappropriate comments on Bebo. Twitter users were quite disappointed by the Simmba actor's statement. In fact, KWK host Karan Johar was also slammed for being a mute spectator. And, rightly so.
Here, listen to it yourself
Years later, Ranveer called his 'KWK' debut a disaster
Years later, when Ranveer appeared on KWK 4, he admitted that his debut on the show was a disaster. He said that it was his first big talk show and he didn't know what to say. Ranveer even called KJo a 'needler' who pinged him. Really, Ranveer? At 25, you didn't know how to respect women? How they are not an object?
To be 'fair', Ranveer admits he was arrogant
Post the crass video, another video of Ranveer went viral on social media where he admitted he was arrogant in the first year. Ranveer said that he had said things he shouldn't have said in the past. "For me, success came overnight and I was not prepared for it. Every actor brings something unique to the table and I regret saying that," he added.
Ranveer was as wrong as Pandya. Period
In the post #MeToo world, everyone is under scrutiny. And, rightly so. Casual sexism should never be accepted. But, in delivering hasty judgement, are we on the right path? Is social and economic ostracization the right steps towards redemption? If Hardik Pandya is wrong, so was Ranveer Singh. And, so is every man who indulges in misogyny. Let no one tell you otherwise.
