Karan Johar is back with SOTY, with a different star-cast
Last year it was announced that Karan Johar was planning to make a sequel to 'Student of the Year' and it would be a launchpad for many star-kids. For reasons unknown, things didn't happen as planned. But, now the wait is over! It has been confirmed that the SOTY franchise is back, and Tiger Shroff will be starring in it as the lead actor.

Karan Johar is not the director this time
Although Karan made a grand announcement on Twitter about the film, he will not be directing it this time. The film would be directed by Punit Malhotra, who has earlier directed 'I Hate Luv Storys' and 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.' There were rumors that Sara Ali Khan and Jahnvi Kapoor would star in the film but there has been no confirmation on the same.
The original 'Student of the Year' was released in 2012
The original SOTY was a launch pad for two star kids- Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt and an outsider Sidharth Malhotra. Although Karan Johar was loathed for his nepotistic activities, one cannot deny the fact that SOTY gave Bollywood three stellar actors, who are now ruling the roost with their unmatchable acting abilities. Meanwhile, SOTY-2 is likely to release sometime in 2018.
