Thief breaks into Marathi director's house; pet cat saves day!
A thief recently broke into the house of Marathi film director Swapna Joshi in Mumbai, making away with ₹6,000. The incident took place on Sunday in Joshi's 3BHK flat in Andheri and was caught on CCTV cameras. However, the thief was forced to flee quickly—thanks to the family's pet cat, which raised the alarm just in time. Here are more details.
Thief entered Joshi's house through a window
According to the CCTV footage, the thief, wearing a T-shirt and shorts, entered Joshi's house through a window between 3:10am and 3:30am on Sunday. Per reports, the man was seen rummaging through the house as Joshi's pet cat watched and observed intently. He then entered the room of Joshi's elderly mother, who was asleep on the bed with her caretaker on the ground.
Thief stole ₹6,000 from purse; left laptop behind
The thief then entered the bedroom where Joshi's daughter and her husband were asleep. He stole ₹6,000 from a purse but left a laptop in the room untouched. Joshi told The Times of India, "Maybe it was the thought of juggling a laptop while sliding down the pipe..." However, as he was about to make his exit, the family's second pet cat got alerted.
Cat's alertness woke up Joshi's son-in-law; the thief fled
The cat's alertness woke up Joshi's son-in-law, Deven, who spotted the intruder. The thief then fled through the same window. After the incident, Joshi filed a police complaint at the Amboli police station. She was accompanied by filmmaker Ashoke Pandit. She also asked a fabricator to install safety grilles at entry points to her flat to prevent such incidents in the future.
