Netflix India's maiden show 'Sacred Games' is definitely binge-worthy
Netflix India's first-ever series, 'Sacred Games', based on the 2006 noir-novel by Vikram Chandra was released on July 6. Directed by acclaimed filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, and involving Bollywood big-shots Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles, Netflix pretty much went all-out with their Indian series debut. With a strong script, and power-packed performances, the series is definitely binge-worthy.
'Bose: Dead/Alive' is on the life of Subhas Chandra Bose
In this ALT Balaji release, Rajkummar Rao portrays freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose. The 9-episode-long series centers mainly around the mystery surrounding Netaji's death. Created by Ekta Kapoor, the period-drama series is based on activist Anuj Dhar's book - 'India's Biggest Cover-Up'. Rao's performance was heavily lauded both by critics and the audiences, making this a show you might want to check out.
'Breathe' by Amazon Prime created quite a stir
Starring R Madhavan and Amit Sadh in the lead roles, Amazon Prime's second Indian series release, 'Breathe', was released on Republic Day earlier this year. The 8-part show was helmed by director Mayank Sharma. The crime thriller revolves around the story of two men hustling to save the ones they love. With a robust 8.7 rating on IMDb, 'Breathe' also makes it in our list.
'The Test Case' touches upon the theme of female empowerment
Another ALT Balaji series, 'The Test Case' was directed by Vinay Waikul and Nagesh Kukunoor. The show features Nimrat Kaur as Captain Shikha Sharma, who happens to be the only female officer in an Indian Army camp training to join special forces. Her being the lone female officer makes her a "test case". The supporting cast comprises Akshay Oberoi, Atul Kulkarni, and Anup Soni.
Amazon Prime Video's first Indian original series 'Inside Edge'
Even more than a year after its release, Amazon Prime's 'Inside Edge' remains a popular show for the Indian audience. Starring Vivek Oberoi and Richa Chadha in lead roles, the series is about the journey of a fictitious cricket team called 'Mumbai Mavericks' playing in the 'Powerplay League'. It was well received by critics and audiences, and has been renewed for a second season.
