Is Deepika Padukone changing her surname post marriage? She reveals
It's been two months since Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone tied the knot in Italy. Since then, they have been giving everyone major couple goals. But apart from their chemistry, Deepika's unchanged surname is also the talk of the town(!). Notably, post her wedding Deepika hasn't changed her surname to Bhavnani or Singh. Talking about the same, the actress maintained it isn't important.
Indian custom of changing surnames post marriage
In India, it is a common tradition that woman changes her surname post her marriage. The lady is supposed to adopt her husband's surname as her last name officially. However, with changing times, this tradition has also modified. Now the women prefer using both the maiden and husband's surnames like Sonam Kapoor became Sonam K Ahuja and Priyanka Chopra is Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
And, what do Deepika and Ranveer think?
However, changing her surname isn't a matter of concern for Ranveer-Deepika. In fact, the couple never discussed it. "We haven't been like, 'oh, do you think you should change your surname?' It has never crossed either of our minds. When I was asked about it, I was like, 'oh, we haven't even thought about it'. Maybe because it's not important," Deepika was quoted saying.
Deepika joked about Ranveer adopting her surname
During her Filmfare interview, when Deepika was quizzed about changing her last name, she joked that it's Ranveer who will be taking her surname. While the men out there might find her statement weird, Ranveer, interestingly, has no issues with it. The actor stated that he wouldn't mind changing his last name to Padukone. Now, that's what you call a perfect husband, isn't it?
We have worked hard to create an identity: Deepika
Meanwhile, Deepika chose to put an end to the speculations over their respective surnames. She said, "I've worked extremely hard to create my own identity and so has he. So, my question is, 'why would he have to do that?' I think what people see of us is a very minuscule part of our existence. But at the core of it, we're very alike".
