'The Witcher' season 3: Plot, cast, release date, and more
Geralt of Rivia is back! The third season of The Witcher, a Polish-American fantasy drama TV series, has started its production, Netflix confirmed. The streaming giant, the host to the show, posted a photo from the sets that featured Henry Cavill (Geralt), Freya Allan (Ciri), and Anya Chalotra (Yennefer of Vengerberg), and informed about the update. Here's what else we know of the season.
How was the announcement made?
In the photo posted by Netflix, all the three actors were seen in their respective costumes. "Interrupting your scrolling to let you know that season 3 of The Witcher is now in production," the tweet read. Apart from Cavill, Allan and Chalotra, the image also showed a white and brown wolfdog and a few cameras. The setting is in a snowy place.

What is the plot of this season?
"As monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it," the synopsis reads. "Entrusted with Ciri's magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl's untapped powers."

Meet the crew, other cast members
The episodes of The Witcher 3 are being directed by Stephen Surjik (Reacher, The Umbrella Academy), Gandja Monteiro (Brand New Cherry Flavor, The Chi), Loni Peristere (American Horror Story, A Series of Unfortunate Events), and Bola Ogun (Raising Dion, Lucifer). The series has bee created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. Eamon Farren, Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring, Mimî Ndiweni, and Anna Shaffer rounds up the cast.
'The Witcher' prequel series in works, too
Netflix has not yet declared the release date of The Witcher season three, but it seems the edition will not be out before 2023 winter. Notably, this isn't the only Witcher-related series the streamer is working on. They are also backing The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel that is set to get released this year. It stars Sophia Brown, Laurence O'Fuarain and Michelle Yeoh.
