'Hurry Up Tomorrow': The Weeknd drops 22-track album
What's the story
Abel Makkonen Tesfaye aka The Weeknd has dropped his much-awaited album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, the third part of his After Hours trilogy.
The 22-track album, which runs for almost 90 minutes, includes collaborations with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Lana Del Rey, Travis Scott, Future, Florence + the Machine, Giorgio Moroder, Playboi Carti, and Anitta.
Although it wasn't on streaming platforms initially, now the entire album is out digitally.
Release postponement
The Weeknd's album release was delayed due to LA wildfires
Originally slated for release last week, Hurry Up Tomorrow's launch was postponed due to the Los Angeles wildfires.
In a show of solidarity, The Weeknd has pledged proceeds from the track Take Me Back To LA to the LA Regional Food Bank.
He also canceled a scheduled album release concert at Pasadena's Rose Bowl and donated $1 million to LAFD Foundation, GoFundMe's Wildfire Relief Fund, and LA Regional Food Bank.
Film announcement
'Hurry Up Tomorrow' film to follow album release
Along with the album, The Weeknd will also be making his feature acting debut in a film called Hurry Up Tomorrow, which will be released on May 16, 2025.
The Weeknd will star in the film alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.
Directed by Trey Edward Shults for Lionsgate, the movie was co-written by Shults and The Weeknd himself.
To recall, he has already starred in the widely panned The Idol for HBO.
Career transition
The Weeknd hinted at possible retirement of persona
In a recent interview with Variety, The Weeknd hinted at retiring his name and persona.
The same is reflected in the closing track of Hurry Up Tomorrow, which seamlessly transitions into High for This, the opening track of his debut mixtape House of Balloons.
The move, of course, brings his musical catalog full circle, symbolically, after a 14-year-long career.
Chart-topping hits
'Hurry Up Tomorrow' features 3 successful singles
The album features three singles: Dancing in the Flames, Timeless (featuring Playboi Carti), and Sao Paulo, a collab with Anitta.
Timeless has already made waves, having debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
A few songs from Hurry Up Tomorrow were previewed at The Weeknd's stadium concert at Estadio Morumbi in Sao Paulo last October, with surprise appearances by Playboi Carti and Anitta.
