'Sabarmati Report' goes tax-free in Rajasthan after MP, Haryana, Chhattisgarh
The Hindi film The Sabarmati Report, inspired by the 2002 Godhra train burning incident in Gujarat, has been declared tax-free in Rajasthan. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma made the announcement on Wednesday. With this, Rajasthan became the fourth BJP-ruled state—after Haryana, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh—to have given the film tax-free status. The movie stars Vikrant Massey in the lead role and was released last week.

Sharma praised the film for its realistic depiction of a tragic period in history. He said, "This film realistically depicts that horrific period of history, which some selfish elements tried to distort to fulfill their vested interests." He added that the movie "effectively exposes the reality of the then system, but also refutes the misleading and false narratives propagated at that time."
'The Sabarmati Report' cast and plot details
Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, The Sabarmati Report also features Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra in pivotal roles. The film is produced by Ektaa Kapoor-owned Balaji Motion Pictures. It tells the story of February 27, 2002, when 59 people were killed as a coach of the Sabarmati Express train was set ablaze near Godhra station, triggering widespread riots in Gujarat. Notably, the Sabarmati Report has been endorsed by top government officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PM Modi and BJP leaders endorsed 'The Sabarmati Report'
BJP President JP Nadda and a few party leaders, including MPs Baijayant Jay Panda, Arun Singh, and Anil Baluni, have also seen The Sabarmati Report. PM Modi, who was the Gujarat CM when the 2002 incident occurred, lauded the film for "bringing out the important truth of one of the most shameful events in our recent history." He said this while replying to a user's post on social media.
