Jim gifting Pam their relationship footage was Emily Blunt's idea
Actor Emily Blunt, wife of actor John Krasinski, was the creative force behind a significant moment in the Krasinski-starrer popular television series The Office. Jenna Fischer, who portrayed Pam Beesley on the show, revealed on a recent episode of the Office Ladies podcast that it was Blunt who suggested Jim Halpert (Krasinski) surprise Pam with footage from their relationship documented by the show's team. Krasinski pitched this idea as a way to reunite Jim and Pam as the series concluded.
Here's what happened to Jim and Pam in S09
To note, Jim and Pam were two of the main characters of the hit mockumentary show with their love story attaining the label of one of the greatest rom-com love stories. In Season 9, the last season, the writers had filled Jim-Pam's storyline with marital struggles, so much that it had fans worried if their favorite couple was going to make it out safely. Thankfully, Jim's relationship footage gesture saved the day.
Krasinski's excitement over Blunt's idea
Fischer recalled Krasinski's enthusiasm when he presented Blunt's idea to the team. She remembered him saying, "You guys, you guys, you guys! I was talking to Emily [Blunt] this weekend. Listen. Listen. Okay. What is the one thing that this couple has that you wish you could have as a couple? They have their whole love story on tape!" The proposal involved Jim asking the documentary crew to compile footage of their love story for Pam.
'That sounds like Blunt genius right there'
Upon hearing the idea, Fischer expressed that she would be "a puddle" if such a scenario occurred in real life. Krasinski acknowledged his wife's contribution by stating, "That sounds like a Blunt idea. That sounds like Blunt genius right there. And I just stole it." Angela Kinsey, Fischer's co-host on the podcast and fellow The Office actor, praised Blunt's concept as "so smart."
Meanwhile, 'The Office' spinoff is in development
The Office might have wrapped up its loose ends neatly but hardcore fans will soon be able to enjoy many more narrative thrills. Greg Daniels, the creative genius behind The Office, has joined forces with Michael Koman, the co-creator of Nathan for You, to craft a new spinoff series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin. Set around a floundering newspaper company in the Midwest, actors Sabrina Impacciatore and Domhnall Gleeson have been locked in as the leads.
