'The Night Manager': India's only hope at International Emmys
The Indian adaptation of The Night Manager, featuring Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sobhita Dhulipala, has secured a nomination in the Drama Series category at the 2024 International Emmy Awards. Note that this show is the only nomination from India across all 14 categories. The nominations were announced on Thursday in New York by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
'The Night Manager' to compete with international shows
The Night Manager will compete against shows like Les Gouttes de Dieu (Drops of God) from France, The Newsreader - Season 2 from Australia, and Iosi, El Espia Arrepentido Season 2 from Argentina in the Drama Series category. The International Emmy Awards ceremony will take place in New York on November 25 and will be hosted by Indian comedian Vir Das. Interestingly, Das is the first Indian to host this prestigious event.
Kapoor expressed his excitement over the nomination
Kapoor—who portrayed the antagonist Shelly Rungta in The Night Manager—expressed his delight over the nomination. He described it as a "worthy reminder" of the rewards of hard work. Kapoor said, "I remember when the offer came in, I was conflicted. It offered me the opportunity to play a character so complex, but also, on the other hand, the huge responsibility of trying to add newness and authenticity to a part that had been played so masterfully by Hugh Laurie."
'TNM': A unique adaptation of novel and British series
The Night Manager, directed by Sandeep Modi and Priyanka Ghose, is a unique adaptation of John le Carre's novel and the British series featuring Tom Hiddleston, Laurie, and Olivia Colman. In the Indian version, Roy Kapur plays the role of Shantanu Sengupta, a former lieutenant in the Indian Navy who works as a night manager at a hotel in Dhaka. Dhulipala portrays Rungta's girlfriend, Kaveri Dixit.
