'The Lincoln Lawyer': Legal series to hit Netflix in May
The much-anticipated legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer has a launch date. It's coming to Netflix on May 13. The premiere date for the show was announced recently and along with that first look photos were revealed, too. Starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Attorney Mickey Haller, the show will be based on Michael Connelly's best-selling book series by the same name. Here's more on the project.
Why does this story matter?
It's not the first time Connelly's novel has been adapted for the screens. In 2011, Matthew McConaughey had led The Lincoln Lawyer, a hit movie from the house of Lionsgate. But the series has been in discussion for a long time now. Originally bound for CBS, Netflix came into the picture in 2020, officially declaring it will be taking over in January 2021.
First season will be based on 'The Brass Verdict'
The story follows the life of Haller, a lawyer who runs a law firm out of the back seat of his Lincoln Town Car. The freshman season will be based on the second book, The Brass Verdict, where Haller returns to Los Angeles and finds himself involved in a prominent studio executive's case. He realizes, the stakes are a lot higher than previously imagined.
Haller would have to juggle both personal, professional lives
Famous Hollywood lawyer Jerry Vincent was the lawyer previously defending the executive, who ends up getting murdered. Haller realizes that he might be the next target. The attorney also has to deal with his personal messy relationships in the first season. He has two ex-wives—most recently divorced Lorna (Becki Newton), and his first, Maggie (Neve Campbell). Haller shares a daughter (Krista Warner) with Maggie.
Series will have 10 episodes
The 10-episode series has Ted Humphrey (The Good Wife) as the showrunner, executive producer, and writer. David E. Kelley has written the script and will also serve as an executive producer. It also stars Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson, Christopher Gorham, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Michael Graziadei, and Jamie McShane in pivotal roles. All episodes of the OTT show will drop on the same day.
