'The Buckingham Murders': Hansal Mehta planning prequel for Kareena's character
Acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta has revealed that he is considering a prequel to his latest movie, The Buckingham Murders. The film, which features Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead role as detective Jasmeet Bhamra, has been receiving positive reviews since its release. In a recent interview, Mehta shared his plans for a potential prequel centered around Kapoor Khan's character and her backstory.
Mehta envisions an origin story for Bhamra
When asked about the possibility of a sequel to The Buckingham Murders, Mehta told Mid-Day, "I already have a prequel in mind for Jasmeet. It's an origin story of how she became who she is today." He further expressed his interest in reuniting with Kapoor Khan and producer Ektaa R Kapoor for the project, adding, "Of course. They own the IP."
Mehta praises Kapoor Khan's performance in 'The Buckingham Murders'
Mehta described his experience of working with Kapoor Khan and Kapoor on The Buckingham Murders as deeply satisfying. He praised Kapoor Khan's acting skills, saying, "Kareena is an instinctive actor, who doesn't take her talent too seriously. That's why there is a lightness of touch when she performs." He also shared that she was immediately on board after reading the film's treatment.
Mehta's commitment to authenticity in 'The Buckingham Murders'
The Buckingham Murders is a rare Hindi film set entirely in a foreign country. Mehta emphasized his commitment to authenticity in the movie, which is reflected in its Hinglish dialogues. "I was clear that if the story is set there, it has to be truthful to its world," he said. "I wanted the experience to be authentic and Ektaa agreed with me."
Mehta expresses desire to direct a love story
Despite his impressive filmography, which includes critically acclaimed projects like Shahid, Aligarh, and Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, the director admitted there is something missing. "I keep telling my writers to give me a love story. It's an unfulfilled desire to make an epic love story—something like Doctor Zhivago [1965]," he said.
Kapoor Khan's upcoming projects and unique tribute
In addition to The Buckingham Murders, Kapoor Khan is also looking forward to the release of the cop movie Singham Again, directed by Rohit Shetty, which is to arrive on Diwali. As a tribute to her 25 years in Bollywood, a film festival is reportedly set to be announced. This'll be a first for a female actor in India, with Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan being the only two actors to have had a film festival dedicated to them.
