'The Archies': Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Agastya Nanda hit sets
Has Zoya Akhtar's Archie Comics adaptation started rolling? A set of recent pictures featuring its lead actors, all debutants, has now gone viral. The snaps feature Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Agastya Nanda, in their respective looks for the musical film titled The Archies, hitting the sets. Apart from these three, another newcomer, Vedang Raina, was reportedly spotted in the pictures as well.
Why does this story matter?
Akhtar launching the three star kids comes as an interesting development because of two major reasons: A) She has never launched any star kid before this. B) Karan Johar is known as the pioneer in this case. Also, the fact that he is not launching Khan, despite being such a bosom friend of her father Shah Rukh Khan, is surprising in itself.
Who plays whom in the musical?
While not much is known about the plot, it seems Khan will be seen as Veronica Lodge (an obvious guess there), Nanda plays Archie Andrews, and Kapoor will appear as Betty Cooper. In fact, even before these pictures surfaced, Kapoor was snapped attending Dharma Productions CEO Apoorva Mehta's 50th birthday bash last week, where her hairstyle and makeover hinted at her role as Betty.
Here's more on the film
Meanwhile, Raina will reportedly essay the role of Betty-Archie's best friend, Jughead Jones. Reports suggest the four of them had recently hit the sets for a look test. To recall, last November, while announcing the project Akhtar had said, "I am super excited to have the chance to bring The Archies to life. It was a large part of my childhood and teenage years."
I am a little nervous, admits Akhtar
"The characters are iconic and globally loved, which is also why I am a little nervous. I have to make sure the film stokes the nostalgia of a generation that grew up on the comic and yet resonates with the young adults today," Akhtar had said in November. Its release date is not out yet, but The Archies will be a Netflix outing.
