Not 'Vampires of Vijay Nagar'—Ayushmann-Rashmika's next is titled 'Thamba': Report
Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna are set to star in the upcoming horror-comedy which will be a part of Dinesh Vijan's horror-comedy universe. It is expected to start shooting in the next two months. The film will be co-produced by Amar Kaushik, who recently directed the successful Stree 2. In a recent interview with India Today, the filmmaker shared details about the project and revealed its title.
'Vampires of Vijay Nagar' is titled 'Thamba'
Initially rumored to be titled Vampires of Vijay Nagar, Kaushik has confirmed that the film will be called Thamba and revealed the filming schedule. It will be the latest addition to Vijan's horror-comedy universe, which has previously featured a female spirit (Stree), a werewolf (Bhediya), and a Konkani lore ghost (Munjya). The upcoming film will explore the theme of vampires. The film will mark the first on-screen collaboration between Khurrana and Mandanna.

Said to be helmed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film is reportedly set against two distinct backdrops: the present day in a small North Indian town, and the ancient city of Vijayanagara. The history of Vijayanagara, which was the capital of the prosperous Vijayanagara Empire in the 14th century, will likely play a significant role in the story. To note, Khurrana and Vijan have previously collaborated on the 2019 film Bala.
Kaushik also shared update on 'Bhediya 2'
In addition to Thamba, Kaushik also shared an update on the sequel to Varun Dhawan's Bhediya sequel. He revealed that the script for Bhediya 2 is not yet finalized, but the story has been written. The team is currently working on developing the screenplay. While Dhawan is confirmed to star in the sequel, an official announcement regarding Kriti Sanon's involvement is still awaited.
Meanwhile, 'Stree 2' grosses over ₹500 crore
Meanwhile, Kaushik's most recent film, Stree 2, has been a commercial success, grossing over ₹500 crore. The film, which stars Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurrana in key roles, is the fifth installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe. It is a direct sequel to the 2018 hit Stree and was jointly produced by Maddock Films and Jio Studios.
