What's the story

Tamil star Vijay's next, tentatively titled Thalapathy 66, has hit the floors. Its makers took to social media on Wednesday to announce that the film has started rolling in Chennai after a formal pooja, which was attended by Vijay and others. Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, the film co-stars Rashmika Mandanna. Mandanna's involvement in the film was announced on Tuesday (April 5), on her birthday.

Context

Why does this story matter?

Paidipally is mostly known for his action flicks like Munna, Yevadu, Oopiri, and Maharshi. And, Vijay has proved his acting skills across different genres. We do know Thalapathy 66 will not follow the theme of an action movie, but we do hope Paidipally-Vijay's first collaboration shapes up promisingly. Also, it being bankrolled by noted Telugu producer Dil Raju makes it worth looking forward to.

Here's what we know of the film

Thalapathy 66 will be a bilingual movie made in Tamil and Telugu. The shoot is scheduled to take place in Gokulam Studio, Chennai, for a week. Touted as a family drama, the film will reportedly have Vijay in dual roles and mark his return to this genre after a long time. Raju said recently that the film might get released in Diwali'22 or Sankranti'23.
