Telugu actress Rashmi Gautam's car hits man
Telugu actress Rashmi Gautam met with a car accident in the wee hours today in Kurmannapalem in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. According to media reports, Rashmi's car, which was being driven at a high speed, rammed into a pedestrian, who was trying to cross the road. Reportedly, the pedestrian was severely injured in the accident and is being treated at a hospital.
Victim recuperating in private hospital, police seizes Rashmi's car
Some media reports suggested that Rashmi had taken her new car for a ride at the time of the incident and was driving at a very high speed. When she rammed into the pedestrian, onlookers rushed the victim to a government hospital, who later was shifted to a private hospital. The reports also said that police have seized Rashmi's car after the accident.
Rashmi denies car was hers, being at driver's seat
However, in her version of the story, Rashmi denied being involved in the accident and stated that she wasn't driving the car. "We were on the highway, where this man was crossing the road. There were no streetlights and it was dark, which led to the accident. I was in the passenger seat in a company car," the actress was quoted as saying.
Driver has been taken into custody, case filed
Rashmi mentioned that she was returning from a shooting and was sitting next to the driver. A case has been filed in Duvvada police station and the driver has been taken into police custody. Meanwhile, Rashmi also stated that she was the one who called the ambulance. "They took some time to respond, so we took him to a nearby government hospital," she added.
Rashmi miffed with onlookers for their irresponsible behavior
Furthermore, Rashmi expressed her disappointment towards the onlookers and claimed that none of them came to her help. "After the accident took place, a group of people had gathered around the area. However, not one person came to our help; people were instead taking pictures on their phone. People must look beyond celebrities and realize that there's a human life at stake," she stated.
'Most disappointing moment of the night was the public's attitude'
Rashmi also mentioned that instead of helping her to take the victim to the hospital, the crowd was unnecessarily complicating things. "The most disappointing moment of the night was the public's attitude. Especially there were young boys, who can really act responsibly but they were busy taking pictures. This is why nobody takes responsibility in a hit and run case," said the actress.
The victim is recovering well now, Rashmi said
Rashmi also dropped hints about the victim's recovery and stated that he is getting the best treatment and is recovering well. "I have 100 reasons to blame the injured man. But above all, it's a life that takes the priority here. From the last update from the doctors this morning, he is doing fine now. My production team helped me a lot," she concluded.
