Teaser: Pedro Pascal leads Marvel's 'Fantastic Four' in retro-style universe
What's the story
Marvel Studios finally dropped the first full-length teaser of its highly awaited film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps on Tuesday (February 4).
Set to release in theaters on July 25, the movie is the last theatrical release of Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) 2025 slate.
The trailer gives a sneak peek into an alternate universe where Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) take a space trip in the 1960s.
Crossover confirmed
'Fantastic Four' to interact with MCU's Avengers
The newly unveiled teaser also confirms that the Fantastic Four will eventually meet MCU's Avengers. This will happen in future Avengers films where they will face off against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
Marvel was forced to bring the Fantastic Four from an alternate universe as they didn't have the rights to the characters, and hence, couldn't include them in earlier Avengers crossovers.
Multiverse mystery
'Fantastic Four: First Steps' to explain multiverse involvement
The Fantastic Four's connection with the multiverse and MCU's main timeline is still a mystery. But expect First Steps to explain it all.
The film's plot is set in an alternate reality in the 1960s, where a major space journey is being prepared for.
This premise is similar to past stories where origin stories are set in the past, only for protagonists to appear in MCU's more distant future or present day.

Character development
'Fantastic Four' characters' transformation and future roles
The clip also reveals that the Fantastic Four characters are scientists and astronauts going on a mission.
This journey is speculated to be how they get their superpowers and meet Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson.
The movie is expected to show their transformation into Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing. It will also likely set up these heroes for future Avengers films.
Reboot insights
'Fantastic Four' reboot: A fresh take on beloved characters
The Fantastic Four reboot gives a new take on these iconic characters.
Based on past MCU movies such as Doctor Strange 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, other variants of Richards are said to have a thorough knowledge of the multiverse. This is likely to be passed on by Pascal's version of the character.
However, rumors suggest Storm could be the main hero in this team.
We'll have to wait for more teasers and the official trailer!
