'TTPD': Taylor Swift's album dominates Billboard 200 for 5th week
Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department has clinched the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart for an impressive fifth consecutive week, per Billboard. According to Luminate, it amassed 3,78,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending May 23, marking a significant increase of 45%. This achievement makes it the first album to maintain its initial five-week reign at No.1 since Morgan Wallen's One Thing at a Time accomplished this feat a year ago.
Swift's album saw surge in units following new releases
This surge comes on the heels of the release of six new digital album download variants as well as a new CD variant. A stock replenishment of the previously available four deluxe CD editions and the signed CD edition of TTPD was also carried out. With 3,78,000 units earned in its fifth week, it has now scored the largest fifth week for any album since Adele's 25 tallied 1.193M units in its fifth frame in 2016.
Swift extended record, shares achievement with Jay-Z
Swift's latest success has added to her tally of career weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, now standing at 74 weeks. This extends her record among soloists for the most time spent in the top spot. She shares this achievement with Jay-Z, who also holds the record for having the most No.1s among solo artists. Meanwhile, Billie Eilish's new studio album Hit Me Hard and Soft debuted at No.2 with a personal best of 3,39,000 equivalent album units.

Of the 3,78,000 units earned by The Tortured Poets Department in its fifth week, album sales accounted for 2,10,000 units (up by 413%), thus making it the top-selling album of the week at No. 1 on Top Album Sales. Streaming equivalent albums (SEA) units comprised 1,66,500 (down by 23%, equaling 216.9M on-demand official streams of the deluxe album's songs), and track equivalent albums (TEA) units made up 1,500 (down by 17%). The Tortured Poets Department was released on April 19.
