Tanishaa Mukerji faces racism in NY, calls it 'traumatic experience'
Neal 'n' Nikki actor Tanishaa Mukerji claims to have a brush with racism during her recent New York trip. She was there to attend the CRY America charity gala. Tanishaa says she doesn't know what triggered the incident
Talking about the incident, Tanishaa stated that one of the restaurant employees said that they looked as if they were fresh off the boat, and couldn't speak English. "That was insulting and blatantly racist. It's traumatic to experience this kind of racism in the US. I have never faced it earlier," she added. Tanishaa mentioned that she didn't know what triggered this behavior.
'Told them to call cops, they refused to do so'
The 41-year-old also requested the hotel authorities to call police to address the matter. However, the hotel authorities were not supportive and refused to take action, said the actor. "I told them to call the cops, but they refused to do so," she asserted.
Saddened that an African-American behaved like this, says Tanishaa
Tanishaa also tried to capture the ugly incident on camera and shared a certain footage on Twitter. "The video I posted ends abruptly because the guy stopped me and told me to switch off my recorder. It's unfortunate when you experience something like this in a land that stands for rights and liberty. I'm saddened that an African-American behaved like this," she mentioned.
