#MeToo: National Award-winning Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu accused of sexual harassment
As part of the ongoing #MeToo movement, several women have come forward to call out their harassers. And now, the movement has hit the Tamil industry as well. Renowned Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu has been accused of sexual harassment by three women. Reportedly, the victims have chronicled their ordeal in messages to a journalist, which are going viral on social media. Here are the details.
Two female singers alleged sexual misconduct at work place
Journalist Sandhya Menon, who has been sharing responses regarding the #MeToo movement, shared anonymous messages featuring the ordeal of two female singers. Notably, both the singers were 18 years of age at the time of the incidents. While one of the singers alleged to be hugged and kissed by Vairamuthu, the other claimed to be touched inappropriately in a closed room.

Separately, singer Chinmayi Sripaada also shared a story on behalf of a victim from a girls' hostel owned by Vairamuthu. The victim alleged that Vairamuthu has 'gone to various extents' during his hostel visits. She further stated that several girls have faced similar exploitation. It is indeed shocking to see a seven-times National Award-winning lyricist stooping down to this level.
