Tamil actor walks out of Prabhu Deva's concert alleging discrimination
What's the story
Tamil actor Srushti Dange has taken to social media to announce that she has pulled out of an upcoming concert featuring legendary dancer-actor Prabhu Deva.
In an emotional post, she revealed that "discrimination" led her to make the decision.
"Despite being in the industry for so many years, you still have to fight for what you rightfully deserve," she wrote.
Statement details
Dange clarified her decision was not against Prabhu Deva
In her statement, Dange apologized to her fans who were looking forward to seeing her at the concert.
She clarified that her choice was not a reflection of any ill feelings toward Prabhu Deva.
"This decision is not directed at Prabhu Deva sir in any way—I have been a huge fan of him and always will be. However, I cannot stand for discrimination and leanings."
Disappointment expressed
'False promises and unfulfilled commitments are disappointing'
Dange further elaborated on her disappointment, saying, "False promises and unfulfilled commitments are disappointing, and these were the major reasons behind my decision."
She also hoped for a more respectful environment in future events. "Maybe next time, in a better and healthier, more respectful space, things will be different," she added.
Criticism voiced
Dange criticized the event's creative team for lack of respect
The actor, known for previous roles in Telugu and Malayalam cinema, slammed the event's creative team for their disrespect and alleged discrimination.
She stressed that her statement wasn't an apology but a "heartfelt" explanation of her struggle.
"This is not an apology to you all, but rather my heartfelt thoughts to share the reason why I will not be a part of the show."
Final words
'I only wish the creative team had taken more care'
In her concluding remarks, Dange lamented the project's outcome.
"I only wish the creative team had taken more care in planning and respecting the artists involved. This project meant a lot to me, and, unfortunately, it had to end on this note," she said.
So far, neither Prabhu Deva nor any member of his team has responded to Dange's statement.
