T-Series becomes first YouTube channel to cross 100 million subscribers
India's popular music label T-Series has surpassed 100 million subscribers on YouTube, becoming the first channel in history to achieve the grand milestone on the video streaming site. The channel touched the 100mn mark just a few weeks after beating another popular YouTube channel PewDiePie in the race for the most number of subscribers. Here's everything you need to know.
T-Series and PewDiePie went neck-to-neck for months
For months, T-Series and YouTuber Felix Kjellberg, aka PewDiePie, went neck to neck in a battle of subscriber count. However, after trying different tricks, the latter conceded defeat at the end of March and shared a rather condescending video, pointing at the caste system, poverty in India. PewDiePie had dominated as the biggest YouTube channel for six long years before being dethroned by T-Series.
T-Series' rapid growth stemmed from music videos, trailers
T-Series has been operating in India since decades, but it joined YouTube back in 2006. Since then, the channel has been posting Bollywood music videos and movie trailers, raking followers from all across India. Every day, 4-6 high-quality videos, including regional content, are shared on the T-Series channel, with the total video count being more than 13,000.
T-Series is also YouTube's most viewed channel
Along with 100 million subscribers, the T-Series channel also dominates proudly as the most viewed channel on YouTube. According to numbers from SocialBlade, it has got more than 70 billion views, while PewDiePie's channel has had some 20 billion.

PewDiePie is also following closely
That said, it's worth noting that PewDiePie is also inching closer to the 100 million mark. The channel has got a little over 96 million subscribers and is expected to go past 100 million sometime in June. Kjellberg had started PewDiePie in 2010 as a way to share horror game clips and reactions; later, he branched into other categories, including vlogs, commentary, and comedy.
