Probe begins on sexual assault charges against Sylvester Stallone
Los Angeles prosecutors are reviewing sexual assault charges levelled against Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone. In latest development, the police in the California beach city of Santa Monica presented the case to Los Angeles District Attorney's office. The spokesperson, however, didn't divulge more details. The complaint was made by a woman in 2017 about sexual misconduct in 1986. The allegations were vehemently denied by Stallone.
Victim alleged Stallone and his bodyguard coerced into threesome
The victim alleged Stallone and his late bodyguard Michael De Luca forced her into a threesome in 1986 in Las Vegas hotel, after she asked for an autograph. She was all but 16 back then and said Stallone and De Luca threatened her. The victim said she told the police but didn't press any charges as she was humiliated and ashamed.
Meanwhile, Stallone's attorney had refuted sexual assault claims
When allegations surfaced, Stallone's attorney Martin Singer had said that his client "categorically disputes the claim and it is apparent that woman filed the report to get a media outlet to publish the story." He claimed the 'Rocky' star was in a relationship with the victim.
Will murky California laws play part in this case?
In California, sexual abuse cases must be prosecuted within 10 years and it is unclear whether this law would apply in this case or not. Stallone joined the list of celebrities accused of sexual misconduct during the #MeToo movement, that snowballed after Harvey Weinstein's case. Recently, the now disgraced producer surrendered himself and pleaded not guilty to rape charges in New York Supreme Court.
