Randeep Hooda's 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' submitted for Oscars 2025
The historical biopic Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, starring Randeep Hooda, has been officially selected as one of India's entries for the 97th Academy Awards. This news comes a day after Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies was selected as India's official entry in the Foreign Film category. The film, which honors the life and legacy of Indian freedom fighter Veer Savarkar, is produced by Anand Pandit, Sandeep Singh, and Hooda.
'Moment of great pride': Hooda on the film's selection
Hooda, who made his directorial debut with this film, expressed his honor at representing a film that deeply resonates with Indian history. "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is a film that aims to bring forgotten stories to the forefront, and this recognition pushes our narrative even further," he stated. Producer Pandit echoed these sentiments, stating: "This is a moment of great pride...Being chosen as one of India's entries for the Oscars is a huge validation of our efforts."
