'Kanguva': Suriya provides glimpse into dual roles in new poster
South sensation Suriya sent fans into a frenzy on Sunday after unveiling a new poster from his highly-awaited fantasy action film, Kanguva: A Mighty Valiant Saga. The poster showcases Suriya in a double role, adding a new layer of excitement. Directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green and UV Creations, the film is currently in its post-production phase. The plot intriguingly spans across two distinct periods—1700 AD and the present day.
Why does this story matter?
Since his debut in Nerukku Ner (1997), Suriya has embodied dual characters in at least six films. His first portrayal of twin roles occurred in the 2004 film Perazhagan. This trend continued in Vel (2007), where he portrayed twin brothers Vasu and Vel. Additionally, Suriya took on dual roles in films like Vaaranam Aayiram (2008), 7aum Arivu (2011), Maattrraan (2012), and Massu Engira Masilamani (2015). Notably, he even explored a triple role in the 2016 sci-fi film 24 .
'Kanguva' new poster features Suriya in rugged and modern avatars
Kanguva's new poster has stirred significant anticipation among fans on social media. Set against two starkly contrasting backgrounds, Suriya adopts a rugged persona wielding a formidable weapon in one scene, while in another, he appears in a modern avatar clad in a sleek black suit, showcasing a lethal firearm. While the poster prominently features the year "2024," no official release date has been confirmed yet.

Earlier, Suriya shared teaser, introduced characters
Alongside Suriya, Disha Patani and Bobby Deol play pivotal roles in the forthcoming film. Previously, Suriya shared the film's teaser on social media with the caption: "A glimpse of Kanguva guys...! (sic)." The teaser provided a preview into a violent period drama featuring an epic confrontation between characters played by Suriya and Deol. Deol will be seen as the antagonist Udhiran, while Suriya will portray the eponymous character.
'Kanguva' sets record with ₹100cr streaming deal
Set for release in 3D and IMAX formats, the film features a star-studded cast, including Natarajan Subramaniam, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, and Kovai Sarala among others. In a significant development, Kanguva—produced on a substantial budget of ₹350cr, reportedly—secured a record-breaking streaming rights deal. Per reports, Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital streaming rights for an impressive ₹100cr. This transaction marks the highest sum ever paid for post-cinema streaming rights of a Suriya film.
