Sunny Deol faces serious cheating, extortion allegations from producers
Prominent actor and Member of Parliament, Sunny Deol, is under scrutiny following accusations of cheating, extortion, and forgery. The allegations were made by film producer Sorav Gupta from Sundawn Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. during a press conference earlier this week. Gupta claimed that Deol accepted an advance payment for a film in 2016 but failed to fulfill his commitment to the project. Instead, he allegedly continued to demand more money while promising to initiate the production which never materialized.
Deol accused of forging agreement to increase his fee
Gupta told HT City that his 2016 deal with Deol was for a fee of ₹4cr. "We gave him ₹1cr in advance but instead of starting my film, he opted to shoot for Poster Boys instead." "[Deol] also made me give money to another director, book Filmistaan studio, and get an executive producer," increasing his total investment to ₹2.55cr. Moreover, Deol apparently forged the deal agreement in 2023, altering the fee from ₹4cr to ₹8cr and the profit to ₹2cr.
Filmmaker Suneel Darshan supported Gupta's allegations
Filmmaker Suneel Darshan supported Gupta's allegations during the press conference. He claimed to have experienced similar issues with Deol regarding the rights for distribution of his movie Ajay. "[Deol] acquired rights from my movie Ajay (1996) for overseas distribution and only made a partial payment. The balance payment never came through." Additionally, the Bollywood hunk later requested Darshan "to work on a project with him, saying, 'Have faith in me, help me out,' and got [Darshan] to pay him again."
Deol allegedly monumentally hiked his remuneration post 'Gadar 2' success
An anonymous source told HT that Deol has a reputation for not honoring commitments with producers after signing agreements. "He is a known troublemaker for years," the source said. "Sunny had given a bound script of a film called Ram Janmbhumi to a producer who created a huge set in Mumbai. Sunny signed the film for ₹5cr. But later, he refused to come to the sets and demanded a fee of ₹25cr because he had delivered a blockbuster [Gadar 2]."
Legal action initiated against Deol
Gupta has taken legal action against Deol, filing a police complaint. A notice was issued to Deol on April 30 in response to the complaint. However, according to Gupta, "His office sent a letter saying he was out of town on the day he was to present himself." No comments regarding these serious allegations have come from the Chup actor so far.
