'Gadar 2' to re-release with Sign Language on this day
In a step toward inclusivity, the action drama Gadar 2: The Katha Continues is set for a re-release featuring Indian Sign Language (ISL) interpretation. The film, starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma, will hit select theatres across India on Sunday, reported Mid-Day. This initiative aims to make the movie accessible to viewers with hearing impairment. The sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, directed by Anil Sharma, it was a major box office hit in August 2023.
'Gadar 2' success leads to collaboration for accessibility
The film's success revealed a larger fan base for Deol than previously known. This fact was confirmed when India Signing Hands (ISH News), a Mumbai-based non-profit organization, reported that many of their wards were Deol fans and wanted to watch the movie. In response, Zee Studios and PVR-Inox Pictures collaborated with ISH News to dub the movie in ISL over two months.
Cast and studio express support for inclusive cinema
Deol expressed his happiness about the inclusive approach, stating, "It's overwhelming to see the continued love and support from audiences one year after Gadar 2's release." Patel echoed these sentiments, saying, "It feels great to bring the story of Sakina back on the big screen for a special audience." The re-release of Gadar 2: The Katha Continues with ISL interpretation is planned as a week-long event. The duration of the event may be extended based on audience response.
