
Sudipto Sen acquires rights to 'Chandni Bar,' plans sequel
What's the story
Sudipto Sen, best known for The Kerala Story, has acquired the rights to Madhur Bhandarkar's 2001 movie, Chandni Bar.
The deal, which is said to have been struck at ₹1.75 crore, was confirmed by journalist Vicky Lalwani on social media.
Sen revealed he is excited about the project, saying, "I am in talks with the film's co-producer R Mohan about this. But I can talk about it only next week. Some legal formalities remain to be completed."

Sen's plans for 'Chandni Bar 2'
Sen is planning a sequel to the National Award-winning film, which is famous for its depiction of Mumbai's bar dancer culture.
Earlier reports indicated that Mohan Azaad, who had written the dialogues and screenplay for the original film, might direct the sequel.
But now with Sen on board, it's unclear if he'll direct or if Bhandarkar will return.

Starring Tabu and Atul Kulkarni, Chandni Bar was a hard-hitting crime drama that dealt with the themes of prostitution, dance bars, and gang violence in Mumbai.
The movie also starred Ananya Khare, Rajpal Yadav, Minakshi Sahani, and Vishal Thakkar.
Made on a modest budget of ₹1.5 crore, it grossed ₹6.6 crore at the box office.
It won four major honors at the 49th National Film Awards, including Best Film on Other Social Issues.
