'Stree 2' crosses ₹290cr, now eyes 'Kalki 2898 AD' record
The horror-comedy Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has achieved significant box office success. On its eighth day of release, the film earned ₹16 crore according to trade tracker Sacnilk. This pushed the movie's total domestic collection to an impressive ₹290.85 crore. The film is now nearing the Hindi lifetime collection of Kalki 2898 AD which collected ₹293cr.
'Stree 2' surpasses lifetime collections of other hits
Stree 2 has already surpassed the lifetime collection of Tiger 3, which earned ₹285.52 crore at the box office. It's also on track to exceed the lifetime worldwide collection of Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki, which grossed ₹454 crore. On Thursday, makers announced that the horror comedy had earned ₹401cr globally. The film was released alongside Akshay Kumar's Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham's Vedaa but has significantly outperformed both in terms of box office collections.
'Stree 2' maintains strong theater occupancy
Stree 2 maintained a robust theater occupancy of 27.62% on its eighth day. In Mumbai, the film had over 1,180 shows with an occupancy rate exceeding 28.75%. The Delhi-NCR region hosted over 1,330 shows with more than a 32% occupancy rate. These promising figures suggest that the film's collections may continue to rise over the upcoming weekend.
'Stree 2' sets new records for Kapoor, Rao
Prior to Stree 2, Kapoor's biggest hit was Nitesh Tiwari's Chhichhore, which grossed over ₹150 crore. For Rao, his most successful film until now was the first installment of Stree that earned ₹129 crore. The sequel also features Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee in significant roles. It had its paid previews on August 14 where it minted ₹8.5 crore and took a massive opening on August 15 with ₹51.8 crore.
'Stree 2' becomes highest-grossing horror-comedy film
Stree 2 has now become the highest-grossing horror-comedy film of all time, surpassing Golmaal Again (₹205.69 crore) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (₹184.32 crore). It's also competing for a spot in the list of biggest hits of Hindi cinema. With Wednesday's collection, the film overtook Dhoom 3 (₹271.07 crore) and RRR (Hindi- ₹272.28 crore) to secure the 19th spot in this prestigious list.
