'Stree 2' crosses ₹300cr globally, to overtake 'Kalki' soon
The horror-comedy film Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has emerged as a box-office sensation. On its fifth day of release, the film collected an estimated ₹37 crore, surpassing the lifetime domestic collections of Hrithik Roshan's Fighter to become this year's highest-grossing Hindi movie. The film has also crossed the ₹300 crore mark worldwide.
'Stree 2' outperformed 'Fighter's lifetime collections in just 5 days
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Stree 2's Monday collections surpassed its day two earnings, bringing its total net collection in India to ₹228.45 crore. This achievement is particularly notable given that the film outperformed Fighter's lifetime collections in just five days. Fighter, directed by Siddharth Anand and co-starring Deepika Padukone, was a major release this year but ended its run with a disappointing ₹212 crore.
'Stree 2' sets sights on Prabhas's 'Kalki 2898 AD'
Stree 2 is now aiming to surpass the collections of Prabhas's Kalki 2898 AD, which earned ₹293 crore in Hindi-speaking regions. The film is expected to achieve this feat by its second weekend. Furthermore, trade estimates suggest that Stree 2 could potentially enter the ₹400 crore club and even join the ₹500 crore club, a milestone currently dominated by star-studded action films.
'Stree 2' capitalizes on extended holiday weekend
Stree 2 has had a strong five-day opening, capitalizing on the extended holiday weekend. This is a feat that many big releases this year, including Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan, failed to achieve. The film's performance on Tuesday will provide a clearer indication of its lifetime run as it will be the first working day following the extended holiday weekend.
Know more about the ₹500 crore club
If Stree 2 maintains its momentum, it could potentially join the exclusive ₹500 crore club. This achievement would place it alongside some of the biggest Hindi films of all time, including Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan (₹584 crore), Gadar 2 (₹525 crore), and Pathaan (₹524 crore).
