'Stree 2' becomes highest-grossing Hindi movie ever, beats SRK's 'Jawan'
Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank, the sequel to the 2018 horror-comedy Stree, has surpassed Shah Rukh Khan's action thriller Jawan to become the highest-grossing Hindi movie of all time. The film, directed by Amar Kaushik, has reportedly earned a whopping ₹586 crore in its Indian net box office collection, according to Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh. However, industry tracker Sacnilk estimates a slightly lower figure of ₹560.69 crore.
'Stree 2' outperforms 'Jawan' in Indian net box office collection
Despite Jawan earning ₹640.25 crore in the domestic market, Stree 2 has surpassed it in terms of the Hindi version's net box office collection. The SRK starrer earned ₹582.31 crore from its Hindi version, ₹30.08 crore from Tamil, and ₹27.86 crore from Telugu. To note, Stree 2 achieved this feat in just 34 days, compared to Atlee's Jawan, which took 57 days to reach its total earnings.
'Stree 2' surpasses 'Fighter' to become 2024's top-grossing Hindi movie
Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, and Pankaj Tripathi, has also become the highest-grossing Hindi movie of 2024, outperforming Fighter, which features Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor. It was released on Republic Day earlier this year. On its 34th day, the film earned ₹2.5 crore at the box office (per Sacnilk), compared to the Hindi version of Jawan, which earned ₹80 lakh on its 34th day.
'Stree 2' outshines major 2023 releases in overall collection
In terms of overall box office collection, Maddock Films's horror-comedy has already surpassed some of the biggest movies of 2023, including Dunki (₹454 crore), Tiger 3 (₹464 crore), and Gadar 2 (₹686 crore). The only movies still ahead of it are Animal, Pathaan, and Jawan. The film's current gross collection stands at ₹640 crore. In Stree 2, women are mysteriously abducted by a headless entity. Vicky (Rao) and his friends step in to save their town and loved ones.
