'Stree 2' advance booking: Earns ₹75L from over 20K tickets!
The highly-anticipated sequel to the 2018 hit film Stree, Stree 2, is emerging as a top contender in the fierce screen battle with other films releasing on Independence Day. Directed by Amar Kaushik and starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles, the film is set to release on Thursday. On the first day of advanced bookings, Stree 2 has already earned over ₹75 lakh (till the time of writing).
'Stree 2' to premiere on I-day eve!
According to Sacnilk, 20293 tickets have been sold for 2,711 shows, grossing ₹75.17 lakh in Hindi. The advance booking for Stree 2 opened on Saturday. The film will premiere on Independence Day eve (Wednesday) with night shows starting from 9:30pm onwards. Earlier on Saturday, Maddock Films shared a film poster with the caption, "Stree 2 - Advance Booking Open Now. Woh Stree hai, woh kuch bhi kar sakti hai! Isilye woh aa rahi hai ek raat pehle, just for you."
Film will face competition from other big-ticket movies
Stree 2 will face competition from three other big-ticket movies: Akshay Kumar's urban comedy film Khel Khel Mein, John Abraham's intense action-thrillerVedaa, Chiyaan Vikram's Thangalaan directed by Pa Ranjith, and Puri Jagannadh's Double iSmart featuring Ram Pothineni and Sanjay Dutt. All these films are vying for box office supremacy.
'Stree' was based on the urban legend of 'Nale Ba'
The original film, Stree, co-starred Pankaj Tripathi and Abhishek Banerjee and was one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed films of 2018. These actors are also returning for the sequel. Stree was set in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, and revolved around a namesake evil spirit named Stree who abducts men during the festival season. The plot was based on the urban legend of Nale Ba that went viral in Karnataka in the 1990s.
