SRK on how cinema can survive digitization
The advent of multiple digital platforms has put a big question mark on the future of cinema. The increasing popularity of Netflix, Amazon Prime and other portals has made filmmakers, from across the globe, worried about their theatre-going audience. Talking about the threat possessed by digitization, superstar Shah Rukh Khan chalks out a plan to keep cinema alive. Here's his take.
On the changes that are needed
Present at the ET Global Business Summit in New Delhi, King Khan suggested a few modifications in the filmmaking process so that Indian cinema never goes out of fashion. He said, "There will be radical changes in content. Movies will be shorter, without interval, and stories will be based on social and psychological geographies instead of physical geographical boundaries."
"Appointment cinema will become a luxury"
SRK is of the view that appointment cinema or watching a movie in a hall is going the Broadway theatre way. Soon, the films will be dominated by artificial intelligence, VFX and virtual reality, he said. The superstar advised producers to invest in new talent as he feels that the process of filmmaking will become more democratic over the years.
SRK wants to be remembered as a legend
"After having spent 26 years in the film industry which is half my lifetime really, I realised I should do away with the tag of being a superstar instead I should work towards tag of being a legend," he quipped.
