Here's why SRK did not speak up during 'Padmaavat' row
'Padmaavat' did not find much vocal support from the film fraternity when it was being opposed by the fringe groups. Most of the Bollywood celebrities refrained from speaking up on the matter which led to all sorts of perceptions. Now, Shah Rukh Khan has come forward with a clarification. The superstar explained why he and other actors chose not to say anything in public.
SRK said he suggested team 'Padmaavat' to remain quiet
Present at the 'Media - Shaping the Future and Entertainment' panel discussion at Magnetic Maharashtra event, SRK said he didn't want any importance to be given to the protesters. He had personally spoken to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the cast members to lend his support and had asked them to not talk about the controversy publicly.
He refuted the perception that there's no unity in Bollywood
"Sometimes, when people are going in an 'uprising', you should just stand back. If more prominent people came and talked about this film, it would have only given wind to fire," he added.
King Khan also said that nothing could stop artistic people
The 52-year-old actor said that filmmakers will not let the negative energy affect their work. "No matter how much you stop them, creative people will continue making films, they will speak what they want. Sometimes there could be troubles, but they won't be scared of the hardships," he elaborated.
'Padmaavat' eventually emerged a winner
Despite facing everything that it did, the Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer went to become a massive box office success. Having made around Rs. 280 crore in the domestic market, 'Padmavaat' has already entered the list of highest grossing Bollywood films. The film had released on 25 January.
